JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - A Laurel teen is behind bars today after being arrested in a Jones County prostitution sting.

Undercover cops spent the day texting 16-year-old Melanie Waller, convincing her to meet with them at the Cheveron Gas Station for them to pay them $600 for sex.

"What we run into a lot of times is that individuals have guns, drugs, money. Unfortunately this time, it was all three," said Investigator Dean Scott with the Jones County Sheriff's Department.

Waller was caught with around $2,000, several guns, Xanax, Oxycontin and possibly other drugs.

The entire exchange between the undercover officers getting out of their car to talk to Waller and her being handcuffed took less than three minutes.

"Our main concern is the safety of our citizens, so we try to do it as quick and as safe as we can," said Investigator Scott.

Waller is being charged with prostitution and possession of drugs with intent to distribute. There could be more charges on the way.

According to Investigator Dean Scott with Hinds County Sheriff's Office he also had a warrant out of Jones County DA's office for a bad check.
