Great Bridge resident Clifford Peters couldn't believe his eyes when he was about to leave his home to get a free 7-11 Slurpee on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. "I've seen a lot of turtles over the years but never have seen one this large". Clifford has lived in Chesapeake since 1976 and moved to the heart of Great Bridge in 1990. "I called animal control and they came to check the turtle out that was in my yard. They think it might be a Chesapeake and might even be a Virginia record breaker for the largest turtle. I don't think our neighborhood could of been developed nowadays because of wetlands in the back of the neighborhood. When we get a lot of rain, like the downpours we have experienced the last couple of weeks, the wetlands flood and no telling what you might see. I saw a large snapping turtle the other day in my driveway. Living close to several lakes, I was guessing the males are going to new territory trying to find new females to mate with. Seems like I live in Turtle Haven now. I saw two box turtles in my front yard this week doing the Hubba-Bubba as one of my sisters said!"(Laughing) We are just publishing the picture of the beast of a turtle. While we wanted to publish the picture of the two box turtles, we couldn't because of the nature of the picture. We would of liked to try to improve our printed production since the internet has decreased sales of "hard" editions of newspapers....... please excuse the word "hard" pun!
