Tony Eubanks of Longwood, Florida was replacing security cameras at his home that had been damaged by recent lightning. Living in bear country had never bothered him that much until today. A huge black bear snuck up under his ladder and grabbed his new cameras that were still in their box. When Eubanks looked down at the bear it suddenly saw him then swung around to escape, knocking Tony's ladder over with him at the top. "I had no place to go!" He said. "The bear was stealing and I was falling so at the last second I decided to jump on his back. I figured he would break my fall and maybe I could knock the camera out of his mouth". He was right. He rode the bear down the hill and into the swamp where the bear dropped the camera and Tony was able to jump off without being injured. Two years ago Eubanks was investigating a disturbance outside his home (before he installed cameras) and met a huge bear coming at him around the corner. He was carrying a .45 pistol and a cane because of back pain and smacked the bear in the nose with it. The bear ripped a button off his shirt trying to get around him but Eubanks didn't get a scratch. That bear was eventually killed by Florida Wildlife officers after several people came into contact with it two weeks later. It was also the largest black bear ever killed in Florida, weighing 744 pounds.
