The Steak 'n Shake located at 10625 E US Hwy 36 in Avon, is closing their doors. An employee who worked at the Avon restaurant has reported that the place has closed permanently on Sunday evening. A written statement was taped to the front door stating "We have decided to close this Steak 'n Shake location, which is being designated for a Franchise Partner. We will be renovating by installing new equipment to improve our speed and customer service. This location will re-open under new Franchise ownership. In the meantime, we hope you visit one of our other nearby locations. Thank you for your support and continued patronage." The restaurant is looking for someone to franchise it, but the only question is, will it ever reopen and will someone ever franchise it? Since the beginning of 2019, Steak 'n Shake has closed over 100 corporate locations to turn into franchises, due to financial troubles that the company is facing. They look to turn many corporate locations into franchises. Only one location so far has reopened to become a franchise, many others are still closed. Many Indy area Steak 'n Shakes are already closed, and Avon is another that has closed its doors. This leaves many disappointed in the Avon community, with only nearby locations being in Brownsburg and Plainfield. There are rumors floating that Steak 'n Shake might not be around in the next few years, considering that they appear to be going out of business.
