The large retail corporation Walmart, in light of the recent BLM movement halts its market of firearms in stores nationwide.

In June, Walmart pulled firearms and ammunition from U.S. stores amid nationwide protests over the death of an unarmed Black man, George Floyd. By the hands of police officers.
This act sparked a mass protest that spanned all over the country and the world. And as a result walmart has removed its firearms from its store floors.

When questioned a Walmart spokesperson states "We have moved our firearms and ammunition off the sales floor as a precaution for the safety of our associates and customers."

"We have seen some isolated civil unrest in the community and as a result have determined that the best course of action is for our firearms and ammunition to become unavailable and inaccessible to the public." the Walmart spokesperson finalizes.

However, earlier in the year a viral picture that was taken inside of a Walmart store made its rounds around the internet. This picture depicts guns being displayed with the text above reading “Own The School Year Like A Hero” This caused concern being that this sign would inspire and influence young adolescents.

In an interview with a Walmart spokesperson about this picture they said “it was in our best intentions to inspire confidence in students, it was never our intention to influence them in a negative way.”

When asked why Walmart did not halt the retail of firearms in its stores before the BLM movement, they responded with this statement “It is our company’s wish for the people to have a choice in what they buy, unrestricted by supply and demand.”

One must think whether Walmarts act of removing firearms is a genuine concern and response to the BLM movement, or just a marketing ploy to keep face in the community.
