The new Teacher Pay Act addresses the state's shortfall on teacher pay. The governor has stated that people do not want taxes to go so the TPA will ensure that taxes stay low and teacher pay goes up. Although parents may not agree with what they will be required to do..... which is pay! Parents will be required to pay childcare cost for their children to attend school. Most daycare cost are fairly high for many with young children so their will be a pay rated scale for the parents based on their pay and a multi-child discount. Now many are concerned that if the state is going to charge the parents then the state will drop the pay, but this will not happen. The state will continue to pay teachers their current salaries. School districts will be required to collect the money and distribute the pay to the teachers. Special education teachers will receive pay based on the amount of time they teach the students and the state will increase their pay by 10 each year of service. Teachers who are National BOard Certified will have a different charge rate for the parents. The Teacher Pay Act should increase the attendance of those who care for their students education and decrease the amount of unnecessary special education referrals as well as encourage teachers to become highly qualified and National Board Certified as well as take the burden of increasing teacher pay off of the state of Oklahoma.
