A couple in Lowell is $1 million richer after winning big last week in the Massachusetts Lottery.

A news release from the lottery says winners Hector Nieves and Katelyn Kotsonas celebrated their win on Saturday. (Oct. 22).

The Couple matched the first five numbers in Saturday's drawing, but did not match the Powerball.

"I didn't even realize we had the winning ticket until Monday," Hector said. "When I was at work I heard there was a big winner from Massachusetts, so I called Katelyn and asked her to check our ticket. When she called me back saying we had won, I couldn't believe it."

The Couple say they plan to buy a new home with their winnings. They also want to use some toward their upcoming wedding and make sure their children are all set for college when the time comes, the Massachusetts Lottery says.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Tedeschi location on Bridge Street in Lowell.
