As of 1st January 2017, all dodgy boxes providing customers with free channels from pay tv subscription services such as Sky and BT will be illegal. The decision was made by the European Commision. It comes as a major sigh of relief to larger PLC's such as Sky as the long battle with the boxes has went on for some time.
