Councillors campaigning for Shetland to be part of the mainland via a 500 mile bridge have been given the go ahead for the initial planning work to be undertaken.

If successful, it means that Shetland will be accessible via the road network from Aberdeen meaning that ferries and flight prices should be reduced significantly to compete.

Councillor Ronnie Nicholson today said he "welcomes the plans" as it means visiting his sweetheart, Laura will become much easier in the future.

It is estimated that the works will cost I'm excess of £500 billion pounds.
