A judge today said he was "sceptical" that any sex offenders' programme had yet been designed that could help a man who had sex with a goat while a train-load of passengers looked on in disbelief.
Darren Temple, 33, from Seaham, was also seen having sex with the animal by a man out walking with his grandson, Newcastle Crown Court was told.
It was reported that as he assaulted the nanny goat, a Seaham to Sunderland train packed with commuters stopped at nearby signals and several passengers who saw the attack called the emergency services on their mobile telephones.
British Transport Police Detective Inspector, who led the investigation, said after the hearing: "The police chose not to pursue this line of inquiry because we already had a good eyewitness, although I understand that a train was scheduled to pass that area at the time of the incident."
