Penneys Ireland today announced that they will be opening a new store in Kilbride Co Roscommon in 2017.

The new store, which is the 38th Penneys store in Ireland, will comprise of 63,900 square feet of retail space

Michael Michaels from Penneys Ireland made the announcement today on the local radio station Ros FM “We are delighted to officially announce the opening of our new store in Kilbride. We have many loyal customers throughout the parish and beyond and we look forward to welcoming them to Penneys in 2017"

He also admitted that it's an area the well known retailer have been trying to break into for a very long time "Look it, let's be honest here, Kilbride is the fashion capital of Europe, this is where it's at"

It was also confirmed earlier this week that well known fashion guru Gok Wan had bought "a scatter of land" in the parish, just to be close to the "scene"

Local farmer Patrick 'Pierre' Moran who was dressed in an Armani suit and a pair of dunlop wellies was delighted with the announcement."I have been waiting along time for this day, no more long journeys to Penneys in Athlone, whaisting dhiesel" He went onto say "One thing is for certain, there will be a grand bit of tale knocking around when this spot opens, the aul cattle could go hungry a few nights" (chuckling away to himself)

However Bridie who's land is close to the proposed site for the new shop had a very different view to Patrick "Every bit of land we have will be covered, all the cattle will have to be taken off. We won't have a ditch shtand on"

It is hoped that building will commence towards the end of the month with a proposed completion date of July 2017.

This announcement is also likely to strengthen the appeals made by local mayor James Connors who is seeking City Status for Kilbride.

Interesting times ahead for the mid Roscommon parish.
