19-Year-Old Driver in Fatal Possible Street-Racing Crash in Folsom

A young driver who died after a high-speed crash that left his vehicle wrapped around a tree in Folsom has been identified.

Rick James Buchannan Giles, 19, of Folsom was pronounced dead at the site of the crash on Oak Avenue north of Iron Point Road on Thursday Morning.

The crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. when Giles' green Ford Ranger went out of control and continued driving straight at a 3-way intersection.

His identity was released by the Sacramento County Sheriff's office.

Police on scene said that a black Honda Civic was involved. Security footage of the opposing vehicle confirms a black Honda Civic with an Illegal Foreign plate Lic: 28-92 More than Likely a Japanese license plate was used to avoid the traffic cameras.

Two witnesses told KCRA they saw the two cars racing at speeds they estimated at up to 100 mph.

Folsom Police advice citizens to report the vehicle if seen.

Police are searching for the opposing Street Racing leading to a death.
