Marijuana has been seeing huge success during the 2016 year, with many states legalizing its recreational use. New Jersey lawmakers have been trying to push a number of marijuana legalization bills, but all end up being vetoed by the Republican governor of the state Chris Christie. This was not enough to stop a major of one of the most populated cities in the state to call for an end on the "outdated marijuana laws".

The Union City major said. “We have got to have the guts to rethink the so-called War on Drugs.”
Brian reaffirmed calls to end the prohibition of marijuana in his city, a position he has consistently voiced along his last campaign trail.
“Too many lives have been destroyed because people possessed marijuana — millions over a 30 year period,” he said. “That is why I believe we should take marijuana out of the federal Controlled Substances Act. but until it happens Union City will no longer enforce laws against marijuana”
The major said that "regulating it and taxing it in a way like alcohol will reduce crimes and the prison population"
The major will have the first meeting on this issue Friday December 9th.
