As the Drug Enforcement Administration tells it, Fuaas A Mohamed was on his way up.

Police were tipped to Mohamed in 2014. He didn’t rate federal attention then, investigators say, because he wasn’t a big enough player in the region’s meth and heroin game.

What a difference 18 months can make.

Now, federal prosecutors claim Mohamed, 30, was at the center of an expanding drug ring specializing in methamphetamine pills. A King County Sheriff’s Office-led investigation saw local police and DEA agents sweep through purported stash houses on April 29.

Police seized at least $116,409, as well as nine pistols, three shotguns, two assault rifles and a .22-cal. rifle. Ten people were arrested that day, and more arrests have come since.

Also seized were pounds of heroin and cocaine, as well as thousands of methamphetamine pills, according to charging papers. Also taken were large quantities of odder drugs – steroids, Viagra and 40 pounds of powdered caffeine. A DEA agent told the court that agents recovered about a pound of “an unknown substance.”

Investigators now suspect at least one of Mohamed codefendants was stamping out pills combining meth with powdered caffeine
