Officers responded to the zoo -- located at 6500 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA . -- at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and discovered 42-year-old Craig Peneguy covered in mud, according to Cpl. Garry Mullen of the New Orleans Police Department.
He told them he was the fictional character Tarzan, but with a strong Libertarian view of how things are supposed to be in the jungle.
Before authorities arrived, Peneguy had allegedly attempted to wrangle up the primates and deport them back to Africa as he believed that they were “Liberal Communist who were killing our city by living off our tax payer dollars”. Later he was found swinging though the monkey exhibit.
The director of the zoo initially called 911 to report that a man was jumping into some of the exhibits after hours.
“We have a gentleman who is -- appears to be -- under the influence of something and is climbing in our trees and jumping into animal exhibits while spouting and spray painting extreme right wing ideology," zoo Director Ron Foreman told the dispatcher during the emergency call.
He described the man as shirtless and wearing only brown pants and was initially undistinguishable from the apes.
When the man was first spotted by a zoo caretaker, he had just "climbed through the mud out of one exhibit" and was trying to enter the aviary exhibit, Foreman told the dispatcher.
"He's shouting at the animals that he's Tarzan and the lib-tards are killing our country”, Foreman said in the 911 call.
Once he was aware that officers had arrived, the shirtless Peneguy then climbed down and hid behind some bamboo, "sort of sleeping, or resting. He's covered with mud," Foreman told the dispatcher.
Once the primates were evacuated from the den. Police were able to subdue and apprehend Peneguy with the use Tasers and a drugged banana. Later police officers reported that he kept spouting random and false political claims from Infowars and Brietbart News.
Craig Peneguy is being held without bond.
