Chicago artist Jim Westerkamp approaches "The Art of Flatulence," in an upcoming gallery series in Wicker Park. The new art form is one often avoided in the public scene, but Jim approaches subject head on in his art series.

"There are so many cliches in art. Over time everything just starts to look the same, whether it be fruit, flowers, or paintings of people. I wanted to take on a new form and ended up choosing something that most are afraid to celebrate," said Jim in a recent interview. While the art form is new and mostly untraveled, we agree that there are many paths this can go down. "There are many flavors and cultures to the image I seek to paint. For instance, Americanized Chinese Foods like General Tso's, we would all agree creates a very distinct flavor. Whereas Mexican Foods or American Salads provides their own unique flavors. Anyone from any culture can relate to a common medium of flatulence."

Many are excited for this new art form as it breaks into an unknown universe. We applaud Jim for creating a new art series, especially as the saying goes "Scent is the strongest sense tied to memory." We can only wonder what memories Jim can bubble up to surface in his series. Perhaps this is one that can catch on globally and bring continued praise to a common daily occurrence. "Hopefully we can all work to pass gas. And not have to deny it and try it. We're all human," Jim closed with.
