In a press conference held today, the president of Hendrick Motorsports, Nascar team which Earnhardt Junior is currently driver for, Rick Hendrick, announced that rookie Charlie Cole, from the UK, will drive the number 88 car for the 2018 season onwards.
Cole, 25, has yet to race professionally, but feels his several years of driving vehicles, including tractors, ride-on lawnmowers and a transit van, as well as experience on both Playstation and Xbox driving simulators, have prepared him well for his new role in the Monster Energy Nascar Cup Series.
'I'm real excited for this opportunity to drive the number 88 Nationwide Insurance Chevrolet SS for Hendrick Motorsports. I've been watching a number of different motorsport series for most of my life now. I feel the time is right for me to have a go for myself. I mean, how hard can it be?'

Cole will drive the number 88 for the first time in the Daytona 500 next year, after a brief training program which will include several hours of driving the track on Forza 6, and following the opinions of fellow Nascar Fans from his home country on the highly rated Facebook group known as Nascar Fans UK.
