Kimberly Zeigler, a relative unknown in hockey circles was inked to a three year deal by the Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday in a completely unexpected move by the organization. Mario Lemieux who has an ownership stake saw her playing street hockey a number of years ago and kept an eye on her progress. When asked about this newcomer Lemieux said this. "With Fleury leaving for Las Vegas we needed someone with that extra "spark" in the locker room. Kimberly brings that and much more. We have great locker room leadership now with Sid, but some of these younger guys need the guidance only a mother can give. She also bakes a mean pie!"
Financial details of the contract were not forthcoming, but we were told that Zeigler would not put too much of a dent in the salary cap. Zeigler is married with five children. When asked for a comment all she would say is "Our family is a Penguins family and this opportunity is a great way for all of us to get some really neat stuff at good prices, as well as get great seats at all the games" When her husband, Rod was asked for a comment all he could say was "The dogs and I will miss her when she is on the road and I see a lot of pizza deliveries in our future"
