For the 12 year olds playing in Phenix City Cal Ripken all-stars, this was the year they were supposed to make it back to the state tournament and win it all. Unfortunately, they decided to take a shit on the playing field in Talladega and get eliminated in embarrassing fashion. We caught up with some family members of players that are on the team and some other families that don't have kids on that team.
First is Nathan Walters, Nathan's son is on another all-star team but according to him "the writing was on the wall" after they selected the coaches for that team. "I'm just gonna shoot straight with you, those 3 coaches were a disaster waiting to happen", he said.
We caught up with Ronnie Wadkins and his explanation was more direct, "Tyler just wants to play ball".
Darlene White was more animated "my damn Grandson Camden should've been catching, my son Matthew should've been the coach, I can go on with all the shit I witnessed. They got this asshat coaching and running us out of innings and if we played anymore game I probably would've died anyway. So it's probably best that it's fucking over!"
We reached out to the coaches for comment but they did not return our calls.
