Although not impossible black bears in the Twin Cities is usually a rare occurrence. Around 9:00AM on July 11, 2017 a family of black bears was spotted roaming through the Twin Cities suburb of Bloomington near Lake Girard Park off of France Ave. The authorities were called but by the time animal control arrived on the scene the bears had disappeared. A resident was able to snap a cell phone photo of the bears eating from her bird feeders.
Authorities are warning local residents to be on the look out for the bears and to call 911 or animal control if they see them. They also warn about approaching the mother and her cubs as it could provoke an attack.
