There are hundreds of islands in Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, many of them tiny specks of uninhabited land. But in recent weeks, a few of these islands have seen a frenzy of activity. Sources within the US Department of Defense as well as the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game are reporting that the nation of China has surreptitiously constructed a series of artificial islands throughout the area, some of which apparently contain military support facilities. Additional unconfirmed reports indicate the possibility of Chinese attack submarine also patrolling the lake.

China reportedly has long viewed the presence of a seaplane base in Alton Bay as a direct strategic threat and, by transforming these nearby uninhabited islands into military installations, China is now choosing to extend its military capabilities into the White Mountain region. The development of airstrips, radar arrays, and all such buildings give China the ability to project force throughout the region. These artificial islands are also a showcase of Chinese engineering, but this muscle-flexing has provoked strong reactions from neighboring states of Vermont and Maine as well as the folks at the Old Country Store in Moultonborough.

A spokesperson for the US Department of Defense, who requested anonymity, claims that these islands are totally with US territory and will continue to exercise what it sees as it's internationally recognized right to conduct ultralight flyovers.
