David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, the producers of the show that won 38 Primetime Emmy Awards and 5 Screen Actors Guild awards, announced on Thursday that the widely anticipated premiere of its seventh season has been postponed indefinitely after a judge in New Delhi, India, ruled affirmatively on a lawsuit quietly filed on behalf of an unnamed client by the Lutra & Lutra law firm.
The lawsuit that claims extensive copyright infringement by the author of the original book series, G. R. R. Martin, had flown largely under the radar despite the high-profile subject. D Benioff assured the reporters that Time Warner, the mother company of HBO is currently exploring all available options including an appeal and hopes to be able to announce a new date soon.
