Unlike the movie, Bruce Willis can't sacrifice himself to save us. Planetary scientists at NASA have discovered asteroid ID10T-17 traveling at over 30,000 mph, with a trajectory that will collide with earth. Based on current estimates, the 62-mile wide asteroid will cross paths with earth on August 2, 2017. Our best hope is that the asteroid will hit the moon instead of earth. While the destruction of the moon will send thousands of smaller meteorites to earth, it should deflect the otherwise devastating collision.
