At 9pm on July 16th, 2017, The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden released a statement via social media that they were planning to construct a statue in memory of their beloved gorilla, Harambe, who was shot by park officials after a child fell into the gorilla exhibit last May. The park's decision to do so has been the result of many complaints from guests who claim that the zoo is "acting like [the incident] never even happened." The park has yet to release details on the aforementioned monument, but they have estimated that construction will begin in late August and the statue will open before next summer.
