President Donald Trump ran for President of the United States because then-President Barack Obama had "made fun of him", close insiders at the White House have confirmed.

The incident occurred at the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner during Obama's tenure as Commander-In-Chief. During the President's speech it is customary for the President to make a number of jokes aimed both towards himself and others attending the dinner.

During Obama's speech, the President aimed a number of his jokes as attending Donald Trump including a number of jibes about him running for office. Insiders at the White House have claimed Trump have "never gotten over" the evening where he was "absolutely furious" at the President for jokes Trump considered "overly personal" and "pathetic".

It has been claimed that this is around the same time Trump aligned himself with Republican politics and decided to run for the highest ranking job in the US himself.

"Trump is president because he literally cannot take a joke. And now he doesn't know what he is doing and the future of the entire country is at stake. You could not make this up" an anonymous insider has told us.

The White House have so far declined to comment.
