July 22, 2017 ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, NM: A family visiting from Lubbock, Texas got the surprise of their life while trolling the northeast shore of Elephant Butte Lake Saturday morning. The daughter of the family, Ima Gagger, told reporters that she originally thought her lure was snagged on underwater brush, until she felt what she described as the biggest fight of her life. Little did she know she had a shark on her line. As soon as Ms. Gagger caught a glimpse of the body and teeth, she yelled "Shark! It's a ******* shark!" Luckily another family member on board was able to get one picture before the fish snapped the line and got away. The shark is presumed to be a fresh-water species, however none have ever been reported in the state of New Mexico.
