Chapel Hill Mayor, Elle Emenopy is proposing a total ban on alcohol sales at sidewalk cafes, patios and open air restaurants. Furthermore she has proposed a curfew of 5pm on all alcohol sales within the city limits including restaurants, bars, convenience stores, supermarkets and bowling allies. When asked why she was taking such an aggressive stance she said "With the influx of New Yorkers, particularly Long Islanders relocating to Chapel Hill I feel it is the only safe thing to do." Bar owner Wendy Geteer had this to say "At least she's not proposing a ban on prostitution. That's where we make the big bucks."
