Local Gordon County farmer, Wes Roland, heard a noise after briefly stepping away from his 2018 John Deere 9620R. When he turned to investigate, he could hardly believe his eyes. His tractor driving away was certainly unexpected but the real surprise was the driver. Sitting behind the wheel was an 8 foot alligator! The scene only complicated further when as deputies from the Whitfield County Sheriffs Office rushed past in pursuit. It turns out that they officers had been pursuing the reptile after discovering it in a Dalton river. The toothy tractor-jacker led the WCSO on a brief chase before abandoning the vehicle for wetter pastures in a nearby river. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the river for now and also to keep a closer eye on their farm equipment.
