At its Aug. 3 meeting in Tampa Florida the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved changes to the red drum size and bag limits in south zone waters.
The approvals include:
In south zone waters: Changing the recreational minimum size limit from 17 to 28 inches creating a 10-fish recreational bag limit

These changes will go into effect on Saturday, Aug 19th 2017
The changes were approved after stakeholders in southeast Florida expressed concerns that a single fish bag limit for red drum, which was implemented in July 2005, may not be appropriate for Gulf state waters.
