In what some are calling a "shocking" turn of events, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Chiefs has announced that they have accepted for review, a proposed $18.7B proposal from the city of Savannah, Georgia to relocate the team.
David Hardress, assistant to the director of community relations for the team, announced early Saturday morning that they had received the offer Thursday evening. According to Mr. Hardress, "the offer is being given due consideration", as it includes the offer of an entirely new indoor arena and practice facility. "Our ongoing problems with our current facilities, and the rampant advance of crime in the area of Arrowhead, gives us pause to consider an offer of this type from a municipality as hospitable as Savannah", Mr. Hardress said. For years, the NFL has considered relocating existing teams, and placing considered expansion teams, out of larger metropolitan areas into, what they term, secondary municipalities. The financial implications of a move like this are obvious for a city like Savannah, whose population is a mere 320,000.
At the time of publication, a spokesperson for the City of Savannah, has been unavailable for comment.
