On last Sunday August 13th, two Stevens Point residences believe they discovered the remains of a deceased Hodag while fishing the Wisconsin River near Rhinelander. The DNR received a call from a woman who claimed to have found the mystical beast while fishing from a canoe in a excluded area of the river with her boyfriend. The two stuck around and guarded their find until wardens arrived on the scene. The DNR officer was unable to identify the creature by sight so the animal was removed for DNA testing. According to officials, both of the canoeists were extremely inebriated to the point where they were barely making sense and their canoe was full of dead carp. Since operating a canoe under the influence is legal in Wisconsin and both occupants had current fishing licenses, the officers had no choice but to let the two go but recommended that they put on their life vests.
