The European Union Measurement and Standards Committee has voted overwhelmingly to change to a "metric" calendar and to start to measure time on a decimal standard effective on January 1, 2020. According to EU spokeperson, Duskide Migret, under the proposal, "Each day would be divided into 10 metric hours of night and day, each hour would have 100 minutes and each minute would have 100 centiminutes. A metric week would be redefined as having ten metric days."

"Additionally, a metric month would consist of 3 metric weeks. The remaining 5 to 6 days per year (to total 365 or 366 in leap years) would consist of required off calendar universal volunteer public service by all citizens." said Migret.

Standards Chairperson Nejsem Vážný went on to say, "Its really a simpler system designed to bring added efficiency to Europe's labor force. We forsee no difficuty with European workers adapting to a work schedule consisting of 6 (or possibly 7) 10 hour workdays per workweek, as they would also be getting additional days off in that week".
