New Mexico governor Juan Anderson the Third is leading a new trend in the banning of artificial plants. Followed by Utah, Delaware, and New Hampshire. Why you ask? Well it turns out that that petroleum is used in plastics and and in an effort to combat global warming these states feel the need decrease our dependency on outdated fossil fuels. In addition to this, real plants actually convert the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide into breathable oxygen. Simply put, if for every fake plant purchased in the US, if a real plant was planted instead. Greenhouse gases would be decreased and less fossil fuels used. There are currently bills on the table in California and Iowa pushing for the same legislation. New Mexico is currently offering residents a week to turn in their fake plants to assigned dropoff locations without consequence. After that week expires, citizens could face fines up to $10,000 for possession or distribution of fake plants. If all 50 states adopt this new legislation it is expected to regrow 4 cubic feet of polar ice by the year 2560.
