A woman attending Georgia State University Perimeter College Newton Campus claims she suffered an unforgivable accident in a classroom September 7, 2017. The woman agreed to an interview with us. Olvera began to speak hysterically: "due to the negligence of the staff and GSU as a whole, I will be out of school and work for at least 6 weeks. Honestly, I do not know what I'm going to do. I have kids and a home. I went back to school to give them a better life and now I am not even able to walk. How is a mother supposed to care for her children when she cannot even care for herself?" Olvera has no current source of income because she is unable to work due to the accident. Investigators believe that the accident could have been avoided if the maintenance crew would have inspected the safety of the chairs in the classrooms. What the Newton County Police Department believes happened, is that when Olvera came to class that morning, she was unexpectedly jerked to the floor. As Olvera sat down, she did not realize a wheel was missing from the chair. This led to Olvera crashing to the floor. She suffers from an immobilizing fracture to her metatarsal bone, along with some severe pain and bruising. Olvera is pressing charges against GSU and is requesting a million dollar settlement on the bases of compensation for the damage and immobilization her injury has caused. Georgia State University refuses to comment at this time. Pictured above is the wheel that could have prevented the whole situation if the Georgia State maintenance crew kept the chairs according to the Georgia safety code.
