In a shocking turn of events, officials at Canada's Wonderland announced this morning that the famed amusement park will close at the end of the 2017 season.

"It was a decision that didn't come lightly. The park has brought so much joy to the lives of Canadians, for decades, and we know that it will be missed." Said park CEO Francis Brown.

Brown didn't give any details as to what brought on the sudden closer of the park, however it is believed the decision was fuelled by rising operating costs, as well as the continuously sinking Canadian Dollar.

Cedar Fair, which owns the park, is known to be downsizing considerably ahead of the 2018 season. It still remains unclear as to what exactly will happen to the Vaughan, ontario property.

"As of now, we're still exploring our options. Whatever works best for the company's bottom dollar, that's what we'll go with, whether that means redistributing the current rides and attractions to other parks, or a total sale of the park as it is. We're still doing our best, to ensure the closer benefits all parties involved."

In further statements Brown reiterated Cedar Fair's commitment to Canadian fans, "we know this closer will be a huge loss for many Canadians. That's why any Canadian looking to visit any one of our other parks will receive a 10 discount on advance purchase of park admissions."

The park, which first opened back in May of 1981, has become a summer tradition in Southern Ontario, brining visitors from all over the world to the town of Vaughn, Ontario.

"It's really going to suck, not having this place around anymore," said one disappointed fan outside the park. "You know, with Ontario Place gone, and now this, I guess the only place to take the kids now is the Ex."

Some park goers were quick to put the blame on the Ontario Government, which has seen record high rates on electricity over the past year.

"I'm sure the cost of hydro is one reason it's closing. We can barely afford to power our home, I can't even imagine how much it costs to power a park like this." Said one angry fan.

Wonderland will officially close it's doors October 30th, following the final night of Halloween Haunt.

Brown says the final two months of park operations will be a celebration of the past thirty plus years, "there will be lots of special events and promotions, all celebrating what this place has meant to so many people."
