Danzig suing Aronofsky over Mother script

Heavy metal artist Glenn Danzig has filed suit in a Los Angles court against cinema auteur Daniel Aronofsky, arguing that the script for the latter's new film "mother!" borrows heavily from the former's hit song and music video of the same name.

Aronofsky "mother!" is a psychological horror film starring Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer. The plot follows a young woman whose tranquil life with her husband at their country home is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious couple.

The film, released on September 5th, has received generally positive, albeit somewhat polarized reviews, with critics praising the acting and Aronofsky's direction, though some criticized its disturbing and allegorical narrative.

"Mother" remains Danzig's highest charting single. It peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and 43 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the UK, the song peaked at number 62 on the singles chart. The original 1988 music video was rejected by MTV for its ending sequence, which contains imagery of a chicken being sacrificed and an inverted cross being drawn in its blood.

Danzig, solo artist and former frontman of the punk band Misfits, has been litigious in the past. Suing members of his former punk band, retailer Hot Topic, and a Trenton, NJ, flea market, The later case was dropped after the flea market agreed to stop using the Misfits font.
