Researchers from the Cambridge University have completed a 20 year study consisting of over 100,000 participants ranging in ages from 18 to 60. The study took into account factors such as age, gender, pre-existing conditions and personal habits to rule them out as influences.

Half the participants were asked to go about their day-to-day lives. The other half were asked to help others once a week through volunteering, assisting family and friends or through participation in positive social organizations that help improve the lives of others. Each participant was asked to complete weekly surveys and undergo yearly physical exams to monitor physical and mental health.

According to the study's findings, the majority of the participants who were asked to participate in activities helping others, experienced greater cardiovascular health and a more positive outlook on life. The other half of the other participants showed little change over the course of the study.

More research may still be needed to quantify the results gained in this study; but it seems that being a good person just might help you live longer.
