For years Jeep Wrangler owners have acknowledged one another in passing with a "Jeep wave". It was a way to communicate their love of Jeeps and the lifestyle they hold so proud with complete strangers. Last month legislation was introduced by an Oregon State Senator to include the "Jeep wave" into the new Distracted Driver Law. The bill, originally written for cell phone usage will now make it illegal for drivers to "Jeep Wave".
The Senator's office released a statement saying they had received numerous calls from Liberty, Grand Cherokee, and Cherokee owners that were upset due to not receiving the wave, claiming "they were Jeep owners too", prompting the expanded legislation.
News365 went to the streets for opinions and reactions to the new law where 1 Wrangler owner stated "We don't wave at those Jeeps because it's like making friends with the smelly kid in class, once you acknowledge them they won't leave you alone. They're like the last girl in the bar at last call, you'll hangout in the alley with them but won't take them home to meet your pets"
We did try to contact others to get their side of the story but the Liberty owners declined as they were kayaking, the Grand Cherokee owners were attending kids soccer games and the XJ owners demanded gas money for their time.....
