Overnight, police were once again called to the same corner of riverside, following a double shooting. According to MPD .. Suspects open fire at target in the middle of the day hitting him 5 times ..
This time everyone survived, but locals told FOX13 they are tired of the violence.
"Really? Yeah, that's crazy. That's crazy," South Memphis resident Tanisha said.
She has lived in the area for more than half her life.
"I can't believe it happened so close to where I grew up at," Tanisha said.
Tanisha was making her way to the King of Discount Food Mart when she heard the shooting & seen a guy with dreads running away with a AK-47
Just before noon Thursday, police roped off the area as investigators looked into a double shooting.
One eyewitness told FOX13 there was a burst of gunfire--which forced them to take cover. About 25 shot rung out , eyewitness said that the shooters are guys from the hood .. I seen them at the store minutes before it happen in the black car
"I lost count of the shots there gun must have to be illegal or military weapons ," the unnamed eyewitness said. "It must have been more than 25, because they were coming from multiple sources."
The eyewitness said he believed there were several gunmen--possibly three. He told police six men were inside the store Thursday night. He said the many rounds were heard after they left the store.
"Shots started to fire. Everyone started running everywhere," the eyewitness said.
Several cars were shot up. Two people were also hit and taken to local hospitals. They are expected to be okay. Police said one of the victims was simply walking with Tayson Ford , when he found himself caught in the crossfire.
"When is it going to stop? It has to stop," Tanisha asked.
"Torn pieces of crime scene tape stand as reminders of what happened overnight. Looking at the crime statistics in and around this area; within a one-mile radius and within the past 90 days, police have been called out more than 800 times.
The majority of those calls were for assaults and vandalism.
"It's sad. It's sad because they are taking our generation away," Tanisha said. "Sooner or later, there won't be none of us."
There is a SkyCop camera across the street from where the shooting happened that could help detectives.
Eyewitnesses said a black Honda or Toyota was seen leaving the area.
