WASHINGTON (UPI) - Firmly believing that sports and politics must remain separate, U.S. President Donald Trump is considering an executive order requiring the return of the Olympic medals won by track and field athlete James Cleveland "Jesse" Owens, a report says.
"The president feels that sport should be entertainment that brings the nation together and that athletes should not make political statements," Agency France Press quoted an unnamed White House source as saying.
"While [Jesse] Owens was an amazing athlete, the Olympic Games is no place for a black power salute," the source added, possibly confusing 1936 Olympics medal winner Owens with Tommie Smith and John Carlos, who raised their fists on the podium at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.
An editorial in Brietbart News praised the move. "For too long our nation has been represented by beta males like Franklin D. Roosevelt - or Lyndon B. Johnson, depending on which year we're talking about. Donald Trump is determined to put an end to the embarrassing era of cucktocracy and Make America Great Again," managing editor Wynton Hall wrote.
Breitbart executive chairman Steve Bannon was in August dismissed as Trump White House Chief Strategist.
