The owner group is actively seeking potential new ice surfaces in North America, Canada or USA is not an issue the group is claiming, "What matters is a economically healthy market for years to come". The economic down turn over the last decade in the motor city has played a major deciding role, that causing a decline in ticket sales as well as a core group that has aged well beyond its prime.
The move may very well be a short hop to Hamilton, long eyed by other NHL teams in the past with the Toronto Maple Leafs being the ultimate deciding factor. Seattle Washington is also in the sights as well as Quebec city.
