An Edmonton woman will be receiving recognition from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on November 1, 2017, for her ongoing philanthropy and volunteerism.

Lisa Lutz, a local grandmother, has been donating to Edmonton's freshwater otter breeding cause for 18 years. "It touches my heart to be recognized like this," says Lutz. "Otters are an important part of our ecosystem, and I don't know of any bettee way to donate my money and time."

Lutz said the otter population is expanding rapidly in Edmonton's man-made community lakes. "People just get such joy out of seeing these creatures in our city, which makes my efforts worthwhile."

Prime minister Trudeau is elated about the progress with Lutz's various projects. "We will be offering $3.2 million to Ms. Lutz for her sustained efforts, and for being the sole citizen in Alberta to pursue this important work," announced Trudeau. "Otter population growth is at the forefront of Canada's priorities."
