In an interview with The Sonic Stadium, Takashi Iizuka was questioned what Sonic Team was planning to do for the blue blur's next Anniversary title. In reply, Iizuka stated that "We are looking into bringing back Adventure-Styled Sonic gameplay into a new generation. The fans really enjoyed the Adventure games, so we are currently thinking on bringing back Adventure-Sonic gameplay." He also stated that "The fans are wanting other characters to be playable again, such as Tails and Knuckles. We are still currently looking at how we can bring them back into new 3D Sonic games without feeling outdated and old." This news comes as quite a shock, especially considering that only a few months ago, Sonic Team has stated that there are no plans on making a follow up Adventure styled Sonic game. Even so, Sega's speedy blue mascot did have a couple of surprises these past few years, so we would understand why Sonic Team would go on the safe route and bring back gameplay that the fans enjoyed so much.
