In a recent interview, Takashi Iizuka, the head of Sonic Team of Japan, has confirmed that the Sonic the Hedgehog series is coming to an end, and "Sonic Forces," is the final title. But whats expected of the series? He says that "You have to embrace tha fans and give them what they want." So, in future games, Knuckles the Echidna, who made his debut in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, will take over Sonic's role as franchise mascot and main character. In addition, it is also worth noting that the knuckles in the future game is Knuckles from the Sonic Boom spinoff series. "Knuckles is a very popular character. With a more modern design and a popular mascot, I see no way this can fail," Takashi Iizuka claims.
