2 Ice Fishermen Drown On Thin Ice

The bodies of two fisherman who had been reported to have been seen going through ice in portable hut have been recovered from A small lake just north olf Lake Nippissing near North Bay.

The men who are not even 40 years of age, ventured onto the lake Tuesday for some ice fishing, drinking and some alone time.

OPP say both bodies were recovered on Wednesday afternoon by an underwater recovery team.



Corp. Dan Moskaluk said an initial search of the area, assisted by the North Bay Search and Rescue Team, was hampered by dangerous ice conditions.

KSAR Volunteer Search Master Alan Hobler says his crews used forward-looking infrared technology on its search drones, and found some areas of concern.

"We used the infrared. They did identify some locations where there was holes in the ice, as well as some hot spots that were up on the lake shore. We sent searchers and our flat ice rescue team to some of those locations," said Hobler.

The OPP says the men’s families have been notified but their names have not yet been released to public.

Witnesses have said the men's names are Brad Privatt and Brandon Stemmler. Brad and Brandon's famies have confirmed the both of the have been seeing each other for some time now for sexual encounters.

Witnesses have also said that loud noises, like screaming as they think both men were ingaged in sexual acts on the lake before the portable hut was reportedly seen breaking through the ice.
