Fairfield's Sydney Johnson focuses in on Romanian recruit other programs might overlook

Explaining that he can sometimes spot raw talent just by looking at someone, Fairfield's Sydney Johnson indicated that he sees something in 7’7” high school sophomore Robert Bobroczkyi. “I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s definitely something special about that kid,” said Johnson, who added that where others might see Robert as strictly a random 7’7” teenager, Johnson sees a basketball player with a lot of potential. “I think there’s a spark in him, and I think he could help us a lot. We’d like to try him out as a guard/3 point shooter, but I actually have a suspicion that the low post is where he might belong.”
Johnson's keen eye for talent has been one of the factors that has lead Fairfield to a 107-125 record during his tenure. Currently Fairfield has players from nine different countries on their roster including Canada, Lithuania, Sweden, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Serbia, Tunisia, Egypt, Puerto Rico, Harlem and Kuwait. Johnson hopes to add 2 more international players bringing Fairfield to 11 international players on scholarship. According to Johnson, Fairfield is looking at recruits from Romania, Luxemberg, Burundi and New Mexico. "We are really interested in this kid from Albuquerque," Johnson stated, "if we can get him cleared to play in the US."
Bobroczkyi is already cleared to play in the US. At 16 he is the taller than any current NBA player. He is a straight-A student and is fluent in Hungarian, Romulan, Italian, Serbian, and English. Fairfield University Assistant Coach Tom Parrotta indicated that he is not allowed to specifically comment on recruits, however he had this general information to share about international recruits and Fairfield's strategy to pursue them. We have had good luck with foreign born players. We need a good outside shooter to replace Tyler Nelson, and being from Romania, I'm sure Bobroczkyi brings a European style of play that includes no ability whatsoever to maneuver with his back to the basket. So Parrotta believes Robert would fit right in at Fairfield.....

Fairfield University has recruits from more countries than any other NCAA Program: Generally speaking, Sydney Johnson said he would like his team to consist 100 of international players, however he felt comfortable signing an American player Ferron Flavors because he first meet Ferron while having breakfast at an International House of Pancakes.
