It’s no secret that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has been shopping around the Jeep brand lately. Jeep is FCA’s most profitable division and has always been a highly desired automotive prize, but the division’s most recent suitor has the automotive world spinning. Recent rumors that Facebook has been looking into purchasing Jeep have been substantiated by spokespersons from both camps. Eugene Willys, Facebook’s Chief Industry Acquisitions Officer (CIAO), confirmed the $19.41 billion offer Sunday during a Facebook live interview. Willys did not go into all the details, but he said there are seven key areas that Facebook is expanding into and Jeep filled one of those seven slots remarkably well.

Willys stated that one of the principal driving forces behind the purchase of Jeep is to seamlessly incorporate their social media app into vehicles, “Facebook has been looking for an automotive platform for our new Facebook Play app. A multifaceted application that uses facial recognition, voice technology, and GPS to work undetected behind the scenes monitoring and tracking consumer buying decisions.”

Judging by the angry look on some of the Jeep owner’s grills not everyone is thrilled about this story.
