Victoria B.C. is located on the southern most tip of Vancouver Island, Canada. Normally a vibrant tourist destination with clear blue skies, vast lush rain forests and serene beaches, it is now blanketed in a dreary grey smog from the over 400 forest fires currently burning in the province.
Hope came today with the announcement that ordinary Canadians would band together to try and clear the air themselves. With the Air Quality Index at an all time high, many citizens could be seen out and about throwing rocks at the smoke in an attempt to keep it at bay.
" The smoke came in my window and slapped my baby" said Doreen Cammelo, a 27 year old mother of 3. " I just opened it a crack! I won't tolerate this from my own air."
Doreen has been standing on her front steps since 7 am throwing rocks at the smoke attracting neighbours and police alike. When asked if she thought if her ations were helping she replied " The way i see it, I could go to work and do nothing, or i can stand here and try my best to defend my family"
Many others have joined her in throwing rocks at the smoke but it is yet to be seen if there is a noticable improvement.
