A Raleigh man who bought a winning Powerball ticket in North Carolina has claimed his prize after more than six months, North Carolina Lottery officials said.
Avery Keel was the big winner of $528.8 million from a January drawing, the largest prize in North Carolina Lottery history. The other winning tickets were sold in Tennessee and Florida and the total jackpot was worth about $1.6 billion, officials said.
Mr. Keel bought the winning ticket at a Kangaroo at 4092 Chino Hills Parkway. He has opted to take the cash option of $327.8 million before federal taxes.
The Kangaroo also received a maximum bonus of $1 million for selling the winning ticket, officials said.
