Whole covering the large wave of immigrants seeking asylum at the U.S. border, is one man, Alvaro Ramirez, who claims he received help from a most unlikely source. He claimed that he and his entire family were able to move from the crime ridden streets of Venezuela to a new life in the United States because of the generous donations to their cause by a Birmingham businessman. Ramirez (pictured in the blue Auburn University cap) says the Jerald Brooks of Star Truck Parts, a local truck and salvage dealer, is “mi grande amigo!” Mr. Brooks has yet to be reached for comment but many on this trip owe their new life, in part, to him.
